It's finally open! Ta-da!:
Any fan of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Vanderpump Rules knows that Lisa Vanderpump is beyond crazy about dogs and never leaves home without at least one of them on her arm. Giggy the Pom has become a celebrity in his own right, so it only makes sense that he is repping for Lisa’s brand-new dog rescue, Vanderpump Dogs. “He is like an ambassador,” confirms Vanderpump.
This week on RHOBH, we got the first glimpse of Vanderpump Dogs, but it was still in decorating shambles. But on opening night—last night—there were pink chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and a bounty of Vanderpump-approved chew toys from a furry pink and black squeaky bra to a Starbarks coffee mug and Barkin handbag.
Lisa told Unleashed: “You’ve seen all year [on the show] that it’s been our mission to create a more human life for dogs worldwide. We thought one of the final pieces of the jigsaw puzzle would be to have a rescue center, but totally different. People can come here and adopt a dog, but it’s also a place where the dogs wouldn’t want to leave. There is a great enthusiasm and energy. Look, all shelters do a wonderful job—it’s very hard—but we wanted to create more of a lifestyle where everyone is bonded by their love of dogs.”
During the opening, we spotted a bevy of reality stars sipping champagne and fraternizing with the pooches, including Jenni Pulos and Chaz Dean from Flipping Out, Lance Bass, Kevin Lee and Joyce Giraud de Ohoven. Also showing support was almost the entire cast of Vanderpump Rules: Tom Sandoval, Tom Schwartz, Peter Madrigal, Lala Kent, Scheana Marie, Stassi Schroeder, Kristen Doute, Katie Maloney and Ariana Madix.
“I’m absolutely blown away,” said Schwartz. “I should know not to expect anything less from Lisa Vanderpump, but this place is absolutely gorgeous. I want to hang out here and just play with the dogs. Katie is an official volunteer but I’m just a quasi-volunteer.”
“This is something that I love about our whole cast,” said Stassi. “We are friends, but we are all dog lovers. It’s something that defines us all. It’s the same way we feel about gay pride.”
Thought she quit her job at SUR, Lala still made it out to support Vanderpump. “I love and adore animals more than people,” she said. “My mother works for the Humane Society and I’m all about adopting animals—not going to breeders—and shutting puppy mills down. So, to take this concept of a shelter, and add this chic spin to it, it could take some of the stigma away of adopting animals.”
Pandora Vanderpump-Sabo is the secretary of the executive board and also the president of marketing and events. “I have lots of other businesses but this is definitely a priority,” says Pandora. “We are trying to redefine rescuing and make it the norm. Many people think that these dogs are aggressive but [we provide] a space where people can come and get the time to know these dogs.”
According to Lisa, four dogs had already been adopted after only being open one day. “The dogs will find us—and then people will find the dogs.”
